
What is the Galway Bay Half Marathon?
This event includes a half marathon (13.1 miles) and the Galway Bay 10 km run/walk in aid of Cancer Care West.
How do I enter?
The online entry fee is €45 for the half marathon and €35 for the Galway Bay 10km.
When is the event taking place?
The event takes place on Saturday 6th October 2012 at the following times:-
10:00 am on Saturday 6th October for the 10Km Galway Bay 10 walk/run
11:00 am on Saturday 6th October for the Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
When is the closing date for registering?
The closing date for registering is Thursday 4th October. Please note you cannot register for either event after this date.
How do I Register?
Registration and Race Number pick up will be held in Elverys Sports, Headford Road Retail Park, Galway on Friday 5th October (4pm - 10pm) and Saturday 6th October (7am - 9.30am.)
Where can I stay?
We recommend the Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill.
Can I transfer between events?
You can transfer up to 17th September 2012. After this date it is too late.
What does my entry fee to the Half Marathon and Galway Bay 10 include?
The €45 entry fee includes:
- Race entry
- Technical Under Amour T-shirt
- Gym sac

- Timing Chip
- Fruit and light refreshments after the event
- Water, first aid stations and toilets every three miles

Where is the Race Start and Finish Line?
The start and finish line is located in Nimmo's Pier in The Claddagh, at the edge of Galway City towards Salthill. See route map.
What facilities are available at the start and finish line?
Storage area for belongings for registered participants (at owners risk)
Water stations
Toilets
First Aid Centre
No changing rooms are available
Is there parking at the start and finish line?
There is street parking available in the area in public spaces on the roadway. There is car parking available in Jury's Inn, Hynes Car Park and Eyre Square Shopping centre on Merchant's Road. There will be parking restrictions in place at the race start and finish line. We have included details of nearby car-parks on the attached map.
How is the race sign posted?
There is a mile marker at each mile mark and the race will be measured by the Athletics Association of Ireland. The route will be clearly signposted and the route details are available on our route map.
Is the race being timed?
Yes the Galway Bay Half Marathon & 10K will be chip timed and results will be available online after the event and top places will be announced on race day.
Are there prizes?
The Elverys Galway Bay Half Marathon and 10K have announced the overall prize fund for this year's events.
Prize structure as follows
Team prize: €1,000 1st male team and €1,000 1st female team. Trophies for 2nd & 3rd teams. Team must be made up of members of same AAI club. See website for details.
Individual: €500 1st, €125 2nd, €75 3rd - for male and female plus trophies.
Are their Water stations/First Aid?
Yes there are Water stations every 3 miles and First Aid facilities at the start/ finish line.
Will the roads be closed to traffic?
We are working with the Gardai to ensure participant safety.
